Set Sail Towards the Super City

Over the past few months practitioners from local body, aquatic, health, safety and education have set strategic priority actions to meet the water safety education needs of our region.

WaterSafe Auckland invites you to participate in their annual regional drowning prevention forum and take this opportunity to discuss how the new governance structure could invest to deliver on these priorities.

This forum will be followed by the 16th Annual General Meeting.

9.15am to 11.30am (AGM begins 11.30am)
Friday December 4, 2009
Marine Rescue Centre, Solent St, Mechanics Bay

Keynote speakers:

  • Nikki Kaye, MP for Auckland Central
Nikki has personal enthusiasm for the outdoors and the Auckland aquatic lifestyle. She is heavily involved with legislation addressing Auckland local governance - sitting on both the Local Government and the Auckland Governance Legislation Select Committees. We look forward to her input on central government policy towards addressing her vision, aspirations and challenges as we 'set sail towards the super city'.
  • Peseta Sam Lotu-liga, MP for Maungakiekie
Sam was born in Samoa and raised and educated in Auckland. He is a leader within the Samoan community and as a mentor for the I Have A Dream Trust is working to make a difference for youth. We look forward to his vision of how we address the rising number of Pacific drowning deaths and what he sees as sustainable opportunities for building a water safety culture across the most populous city of the Pacific.
  • Scott Milne
Scott has extensive public sector experience having been a local body councilor with Auckland City for two terms. He currently sits on the Auckland Regional Amenities Funding Board. His wide experience in governance roles across the recreation, tourism and arts areas provide him with the ability to draw together the morning's discussions and summarise how we set sail towards 'super city status'.

We look forward to your participation and input. Full details are included on the Forum Invite [Download Forum Invite].
