Fishing in Aotearoa

New Zealand is an aquatic nation, where fishing is one of our most popular recreational activities and customary fishing plays an important role in our cultural heritage.

In conjunction with Seaweek 2010 - Fish for the Future 'Tiakina ngā tupuranga whakahake' - WaterSafe Auckland has released a new Teacher Guide 'Fishing in Aotearoa' covering both recreational and customary fishing.

Seaweek 2010 runs from March 7 until March 14 and provides the perfect opportunity to re-connect with the sea.

Visit the website www.seaweek.org.nz for further Seaweek activities, events and information.

The Teacher Guides are written in every day language for teachers to support their aquatic education lessons and they support the New Zealand Curriculum 2007. You can download a copy of Fishing in Aotearoa from the Teachers' Toolbox.
