Regional Water Safety Education and Drowning Prevention Forum
The updated Auckland Regional Water Safety Education Strategy and Action Plan 2009-2012 was developed after our November regional forum.
WaterSafe Auckland invites community and stakeholders to take stock of our achievements as a region for the past summer and look to the next.
Auckland is less than six months away from new governance. The new Auckland council will offer many opportunties for collaboration around water safety education for aquatic, health, safety and injury prevention organisations. As an aquatic region, enhanced delivery and promotion of water safety education must go hand in hand with these changes.
In response to numerous international reports showing that approximately 28 percent of all unintentional injury deaths among children are due to drowning, an international task force has established guidelines for families and individuals recreating at any open water site.
