WAI is exploring a new way of working, whereby schools become the water safety hub for community, early childhood centres, other local schools without pools and workplaces.
We are currently piloting this approach with Colwill School and Patumahoe Primary, each being supported with professional learning and development (PLD) for teachers including workshops and resources.
Colwill School already has a Community Hub on site and in conjunction with the Hub coodinator planning is underway to support parents/caregivers and their under 5s by providing them with practical water safety experiences, both in and around water. This opportunity will be promoted to the ECE centres both on site and within close proximity of the school. To find out more about Nohonga email Lynley Stewart.
