May 2010 - Release: International Open Water Safety Guidelines

Drowning is a major cause of injury death for all ages. In New Zealand it is the third highest cause of unintentional injury death across the population, yet the second highest cause for the under-25 age group.

In repsonse to alarming statistics such as these, an international task force on open water drowning prevention has established guidelines for families and individuals recreating at any open water site.

In the Resources panel (right) you'll find the Press Release, Guidelines and Dr Kevin Moran's Poster presented at the recent Australian Water Safety Conference.

The Task Force consists of 18 drowning prevention experts from 12 countries, including WaterSafe Auckland's Chairman Dr Kevin Moran and Business Manager Teresa Stanley.
