Auckland Regional Water Safety Education Strategy and Action Plan 2009-2012
This Plan was developed by WaterSafe Auckland in collaboration with water safety and community leaders and organisations with an interest and involvement in the water safety education and drowning prevention of, and visitors to, the Auckland region.
It recognises that education is the preferred means for reducing drowning over a long term and sustained period, with a need for initiatives to be aligned and coordinated at a regional level to ensure consistency with national objectives whilst targeting regional needs.
The initiatives and partnerships recognise the diversity of our communities reflecting their differing needs and the Plan assesses the highest needs, ensuring collaboration within the delivery capacity to deliver the best possible water safety education.
The continuation of existing programmes and initiatives and implementation of best practise interventions are based on needs, evidence and evaluation so as to ensure best use of both human and financial resources.
The Plan was developed specific to the Auckland geographical area including the whole of Franklin district. This differs from the Auckland Regional Council area but inclusion was at the request of the Franklin District Council.
Update July 2010 – The Plan has been updated to include priorities for action moving forward, as identified by stakeholders and partners at the Regional Forum in May. This latest version can be downloaded from the Resources panel at right.
