Swim School Water Safety

Swim School Water Safety

Drowning Prevention Auckland works closely with swim schools and pools in different locations within Auckland. This has resulted in swim schools amending their curriculum to include water safety.
We have found swim schools have varying degrees of water safety included in their curriculum. It is also been noted that there are variations as to what and how the water safety skills, and water safety knowledge are promoted and taught from school to school.
We aim to work closer with swim schools, to strengthen our relationship and improve the consistency of water safety education delivery across Auckland.

Learning aquatics will introduce you to the aquatic environment in a controlled and safe way where instructors can work with you or your child to develop important swimming and water safety skills.
Generally, the recommended age that children can start learning to swim is 3 to 4 years, although developing water competence can start earlier than that. From 6 months you can introduce your child to water confidence and familarisation lessons, however some swim schools start earlier than this.
