This module is focused on youth and young adults, but it can be used by secondary school teachers and parents alike.
It is based on the WAI Survival guide, which is a water safety resource structured to meet the requirements of the New Zealand Curriculum (2007), Health and Physical Education (HPE) at levels 4 and 5. It is a resource of aquatic safety skills and competencies designed to develop life skills, knowledge, safety attitudes and values in, on, under and near water. It can also be used for aquatic or community groups.
The aim of the WAI Survival is to build water safety knowledge and understanding that develops a platform for safer participation in the future.
To meet the learning needs of the students’, this resource highlights some of the critical water safety skills, knowledge needed and environments that will improve students’ awareness and competence to prevent drowning.
