The release of New Zealand’s half-year drowning statistics by Water Safety New Zealand (WSNZ) reports that 61 persons have drowned, to 30 June 2015. This is a third up on the same period last year (46) and the highest year-to-date toll since 2011. According to the report January’s drownings (21) were more than double that of January 2014, and Auckland’s (13) more than triple for the same period last year.
Kate Han from World TV popped in to have a chat with Teresa Stanley about what might be behind this alarming rise in statistics. Her interview with Teresa starts at 13.00 on the timer.
